SHOULD CALGARY SET UP A LOBBYIST REGISTRY?

I supported Councillor Clark's motion to explore a lobbyist registry for Calgary.

I moved an amendment to ensure the options that come back to Council will include HOW THE RULES WOULD ALSO APPLY TO ADMINISTRATION. Thank you to Councillor Johnston for seconding it. It passed 12-3.

Administration drafts the policy we vote on. Anyone lobbying us is also meeting with them. If the public wants real accountability, they should be able to see both.

To be clear, nothing is in place yet. This is a review, and options come back to Council later. When they do, I will not support a registry that applies only to elected officials and exempts Administration. And TRANSPARENCY SHOULDN'T COME WITH A MOUNTAIN OF PAPERWORK.
