SE LANDFILL FIRE - UPDATE FROM THE MINISTER

Environment Minister Grant Hunter has issued a statement on the ECCO fire.

The Province will coordinate with the City to investigate whether materials not permitted under the facility's environmental authorization were present at the site. If evidence emerges, enforcement could range from a warning letter to administrative penalties to prosecution.

Alberta's public health officials have now reviewed the monitoring data and assess a low overall risk for the general population, with the greatest exposure directly downwind during heavy smoke. Fine particulate remains the only pollutant to exceed provincial guidelines.
