SE LANDFILL FIRE - UPDATE FROM THE FIRE CHIEF

Conditions at the ECCO fire have improved, and smoke should be under control in the next few days. Fully extinguishing it could take weeks or months.

Crews are capping the site with soil to smother fire burning deep in about one million cubic metres of material. Occasional flare-ups are expected as part of the process.

If smoke is in your area, limit time outdoors, keep windows closed, and call 811 with health concerns.
