LANDFILL FIRE UPDATE

The fire at the private landfill near Barlow Trail and Shepard Road SE reignited early this morning after being brought under control Monday evening.

Fires ignited in several spots around 6:00 AM and spread through the debris piles, causing heavy smoke in the area. Calgary Fire has brought in contractors with heavy equipment and dedicated fire suppression crews.

If you smell smoke, keep your windows closed and stay indoors when possible. Hazardous Materials crews and Alberta Environment have air monitoring set up in the area.

CFD is asking that you do not call 911 unless you see fire spreading to other structures or areas. Crews are on site and an active response is underway.
