AUBURN BAY & CRANSTON TRAFFIC CALMING

AUBURN BAY & CRANSTON TRAFFIC CALMING

The rubber curbs and speed cushions installed back in October 2024 were a pilot, and the City has now finished evaluating them. Collisions dropped 44% in Auburn Bay and 20% in Cranston, but we also heard plenty from residents who found them ineffective, unattractive, and hard on parking and larger vehicles.

Both things shaped the outcome. The mid-block rubber curbs are coming out entirely, permanent curb extensions will stay only at community entrances, and the rubber cushions are being replaced with asphalt.

The catch is that this is 2027 construction season work, so the temporary materials stay put until then. Details in the slides.
